Compass
Currently, Gardner is serving as Director of a student organization called “Compass.” He is helping this organization carry on it’s purpose of helping students grow intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually. It’s a place for students of all religious beliefs to come together and grow in these areas. Academics alone will not help students grow into confident leaders and “whole” persons. Our goal is to help them explore and grow in other areas of life as well.
Social Growth:
- Weekly/monthly social meetings/events organized around certain themes of interest to students
Intellectual Growth:
- English Clubs/Intensives in addition to special courses taught in conjunction with the local universities
Spiritual Growth:
- Discussions and events aimed at helping students think through their own religious beliefs and convictions.
Physical Growth:
- Instruction in setting physical health goals
- Instruction and training in backpacking and mountaineering
- Special backpacking and mountaineering trips
- Introduction to sports including Frisbee and American football
Student life can be a difficult time and we hope that through Compass, students will better be able to keep their bearings and not fall into the kinds of problems so often found on university campuses. |
